ReplyDeleteLet's see - my favorite novel? Very difficult. One of my favorites is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. From our classics list I think my favorites have been P&P, Jane Eyre, Oliver, and Uncle Tom's Cabin. Oh, I love children's literature, and some of my favorite recent series are the Roman Mysteries (but be careful - they are kind of gory at times, as the Romans were!) and the P.K. Pinkerton mysteries, both by Caroline Lawrence. I also love the Sammy Keyes mysteries by Van Draanen.

DeleteI loved a Tree Grows in Brooklyn! Equal to that book for me was To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. And here's another title along that same vein (though not as well known): Mama's Bank Account by Kathryn Forbes. It was made into a sweet movie in 1948 -- I Remember Mama, starring Irene Dunne.

Being more of a coffee person, I would either bring my own in my travel mug or stop by Starbucks or Tim's on the way. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis post touches me, Adriana, because last night at our writing group we did a 15-minute writing exercise and the prompt was "something you regret." I wrote that I regret not travelling more before we had kids because I realize that now I will likely not get to any of the places I would like to see. But as I wrote, I thought, I shouldn't be so pessimistic; I should just dream! So I wrote some places I'd like to go and one was that I would visit you in [insert state here] and we'd go walking in the woods like 2 travelers into Narnia!
Favourite novel: well, I listed my top 5 in a post once: Little Women, Rebecca, The House of Mirth, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows. I'm very glad to have re-read Jane Eyre recently in your synchro-read; it touched me more deeply this time than ever before. I'm not sure where you're at in it so I won't spoil it yet by explaining why, but sometime soon I will.

I'm glad you have your dreams. Have you ever read my post about the list of goals I made at age 12? I don't believe we can predict the future, but I DO believe that we can be "vision casters" and cast beautiful goals for ourselves and for others! I have seen this played out in my life and again! If I write down a goal it typically comes to pass eventually. Thank you for reminding me of this! I needed this right now.
BTW, When I finish the WEM list I am planning to tour the English countryside. I don't know how I'm going to pay for the trip yet, but airfare and lodging are mere details, right? God loves to give good gifts to his children.
P.S. My reader says I have 4hrs to go on Jane Eyre. I love it but I have been a little too tired lately to read anything. :-( I was listening to it while in the bath tub last night and I fell asleep. I still love it more than any screen version I've ever seen. And it has been fascinating to read a work by an author with my personality type.
